I was never a fan of Taylor Swift until the release of her album 1989, which turned the proverbial record over and astonished fans and non-fans alike with catchy and soulful pop tracks. So when Ryan Adams (one of my all-time favorite artists) decided to cover Taylor’s entire album, I was intrigued. Covering one of the most successful albums in music history? Less than 3 years after its original release? Inspirational risk-taking at its finest. In any case, Adams’ take on All You Had To Do Was Stay is one of the best cover songs I’ve ever heard. It’s so brilliant and transformative that I actually enjoy it more than the original. Almost as if the song was meant to be sung by him from the get-go. If you’re looking for a fresh beat on this festive Friday morning, make sure you don’t skip this one.
