Outside Familiar

I’m a huge creature of comfort and lately I’ve been binge reading only what appeals to me most: spy games and throwback espionage romps.

A few months ago I was roaming around Princeton and walked over to one of my favorite bookstores.

The day was hot, and humidity grasped a chokehold over the pedestrian atmosphere but when it comes to books, uncomfortable summer temperatures take a distant backseat.

A sidewalk sale was going on at the store, which is where I found this hardcover copy of Augusten Burroughs’ Lust & Wonder.

Running With Scissors seems to be his most popular work, but L&W interested me just at the mere sight of it so I figured I’d found a suitable starting point with this author.

It’s easy to stay on a regular and familiar wavelength of what’s comfortable, like with my thriller, candy-coated prose novels, but I do like stepping outside of the norm when I can.

What reading genre(s) do you stick to like glue?
